Communism Tour of Bulgaria
€879 per person
Once Upon A Time… a country isolated from the rest of the world for decades. Between 1946 and 1989, Bulgaria was a close ally of the Soviet Union and its political landscape was ruled by the iron fist of the Bulgarian Communist Party. In keeping with the Communist ideology of the time, the Bulgarians constructed many monuments, throughout the country, to the glory of the Party, the country and its leaders. Many of these symbols of a bygone era are still standing and continue to fascinate.
With Once Upon A Time you can undertake an astounding and unique road trip: a tour of Communist Bulgaria! On top of the amazing architecture of Buzludzha and the monument of Shumen, we’ll also take you to visit a few gems off the tourist trail that will plunge you straight back into this very peculiar period. We’ve prepared a program sprinkled with a number of surprises…
We already did something similar in 2015, so here are a few pictures. On a side note, the Alexander Nevski Cathedral isn’t related to his particular tour.

Practical information
As with most of our tours, Once Upon A Time offers two different options: “The Wanderers” and “As you wish“.
The Wanderers are trips in groups of maximum 20 participants, which we organise from time to time, on fixed dates. We take care of everything: we collect you at the airport and you don’t have to do anything until your return! These are guaranteed to be amazing holidays because our groups are consistently fabulous! It’s a perfect solution for your holidays as we work closely with local specialists, who always have a few surprises up their sleeve.
As you wish: you prefer to travel alone, as a couple or with a small group of your own friends? We can sort that out too! All you need to do is decide on the number of days, the number of friends you’re coming with and the program you’re interested in… we can work it out together and tweak everything to your liking. That’s it: we sort out all the details for you: transportation, hotels and even your tour guides.
