Hiking in Sofia
€529 per person
Once Upon A Time… a mysterious mountain massif located on the outskirts of a European capital. Whether you crave a getaway or whether you need to forget all about your everyday for a while, we offer a range of trips of a few days in Sofia with hiking in Vitosha, visits to Sofia (cultural, for foodies…) and yoga classes (for groups and/or to your specifications).
The program of these city-trips can be tailored to the desires and physical fitness levels of the participants. There are many different hiking trails throughout Vitosha, some are relatively easy, while others require good physical fitness. You will, however, always be accompanied by a sports coach/guide.
The cultural and gastronomical visits can also be adapted to the needs of each group. A vegan option is always offered.
Vitosha
Vitosha is a mountain massif, on the outskirts of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. Vitosha is one of the symbols of Sofia and the closest site for hiking, alpinism and skiing. The territory of the mountain includes Vitosha nature park that encompasses the best known and most frequently visited parts. Vitosha is the oldest nature park in the Balkans.
The mountain emerged as a result of volcanic activity and has been subsequently shaped by the slow folding of the granite rock layers and a series of gradual uplifts of the area. This is the highest point of the mountain at 2290 m and is one of 10 peaks in Vitosha that reach over 2000 m in height.
Sofia
Sofia is the capital, as well as the largest city in Bulgaria. It is also the economic and cultural heart of the country. It is in constant development and is attracting increasingly more people, which makes it one of Europe’s biggest cities – ranked as the 15th largest city in Europe – with a population of close to 2 million inhabitants. Sofia is also a university centre, with the university of “St. Kliment Ohridski” being the oldest and most prestigious.
Sofia is, above all else, a delightful and happy place and occasionally a bit confusing too. There is no shortage of architectural gems such as the incredible Alexander-Nevski Cathedral, the Saint Sophia Church and the Saint George Rotunda. This ancestral heritage is interwoven with buildings and monuments from the communist era, which give this European capital such a distinct quality. Sofia is also chock-full of vast parks and public gardens, restaurants and funky bars, not to mention its many galleries and museums.
Program
The basis of the program remains the same but each stay can be adapted or modified depending on the desires/needs or levels of each group. The program can be spread over 3, 4 or 5 days.

09.00: yoga class

Practical information
As with most of our tours, Once Upon A Time offers two different options: “The Wanderers” and “As you wish“.
The Wanderers are trips in groups of maximum 20 participants, which we organise from time to time, on fixed dates. We take care of everything: we collect you at the airport and you don’t have to do anything until your return! These are guaranteed to be amazing holidays because our groups are consistently fabulous!
As you wish: would you rather travel alone? As a couple? With a few close friends? That’s cool and we’re here to make it all so much easier, as well as discussing your wishes with you so that your holidays are exactly “as you wish”! All you need to do, is decide on the duration of your trip, the number of people and the program, of which we can tweak every detail together. That’s it, we do all the rest for you.
